BALLET

THE NUTCRACKER: Tuesday, 5th December at 20.15h at the Cinemes Illa Carlemany, Escaldes-Engordany. Cinema direct from the ROYAL OPERA HOUSE, COVENT GARDEN, LONDON. Conducted by Barry Wordsworth. Starring: international award-winning dancers SARAH LAMB, STEVEN MCRAE, FRANCESCA HAYWARD, ALEXANDER CAMPBELL and GARRY AVIS. THE STORY: A young girl’s enchanted present leads her on a wonderful Christmas adventure in this beautiful classical ballet, danced to Tchaikovsky’s magnificent score. The performance lasts about 2 hours 20 minutes, including one interval. MUSIC

SPIRIT OF NEW ORLEANS GOSPEL SINGERS. Wednesday, 6th December at 21.30 in the church of SANT PERE MÀTIR, ESCALDES-ENGORDANY. (5€). This year’s 33RD FESTIVAL OF INTERNACIONAL COLORS DE MÚSICA will close with this gospel concert full of nostalgia including great songs such as Down by the Riverside, Glory Glory Hallelujah and Oh Happy Day. This is part of the tour of The Greats of Gospel.

100TH ANNIVERSARY HOMAGE TO ELLA FITZGERALD. Thursday, 7th December at 21h in the CENTRE DE CONGRESSOS, ANDORRA LA VELLA. (Tickets from 10€ – 25€ available on line from morabanc.ad CONCERT: with ANDORRA BIG BAND, directed by JORDI BARCELÓ and with singers: ALONDRA, CARINA VENTURA, ESTER PERALBA, ISHTAR RUIZ, JONAINA SALVADOR, LAURA ESTIARTE, MAR CAPDEVILA and SUSANNE GEORGI.

CHRISTMAS CONCERT. Saturday, 9th December at 22h in the CHURCH OF SANT JULIÀ AND SANT GERMÀ, SANT JULIÀ DE LÒRIA. by the CORAL LLAR DE LÒRIA, DELS PETITS CANTAIRES LAUREDIANS, LA CORAL ROCAFORT and the guest choir LA CORAL COR DE CAMBRA JOLIU. There will be a voluntary collection in aide of the parish of Sant Julià’s Càritas charity.

DANCE

GINNUNGAGAP Saturday, 9th December at 20h and 21.30h in the SALA DE LA CLOSETA, LA MASSANA. (Free). GINNUNGAGAP is a show that mixes together artists, technicians and the public in a single space. It aims to question the issues that exist between the point of view of the spectator and the artist. The spectator here is free to move among them. The driving force is the musicians who, by means of a digital concert, propose a trip with the dancers through the Nordic Creation legends. Performers: EMMA RIBA, LAURA ALCALÀ, BORJA FERNÁNDEZ, ANNA FELIU and NORA BAYLACH.

PANTOMIME (in English)

BEAUTY & THE BEAST Sunday, 10th December at 12h at the TEATRE DE LES FONTETES, LA MASSANA. (Free). Pantomime, or Panto, is one of the most beloved of British Christmas traditions, full of jokes and sly laughter for young and old alike. Produced in Andorra by Sandra Wheatly and Fran Doonan with children drawn from all Andorra’s communities. They perform each year to packed houses, so please make your seat reservations by email to [email protected] or call/whatsapp Sandra at 354 153.

LA MASSANA CHRISTMAS MARKET
Until 10th December in La Plaça de Les Fontetes, La Massana (unless otherwise stated), the traditional Mercat de Nadal/Christmas Market with little wooden chalets, or casetes, selling Christmas products including mince pies, preserves, decorations, warm scarves and gloves etc, a small ice rink, lots of workshops for children and song and dance performances. This year there is a permanent Caseta de Pare Noel (Father Christmas ) where children can write letters to Santa and at times listen to stories. Opening hours: MONDAY 4th & TUESDAY 5th 16h – 20h. WEDNESDAY 6th opens 16h. Write to Father Christmas. 17.30 GOSPEL CONCERT by WHITE HEAVEN GOSPEL GROUP. 20h Market Closes.

LADY MACBETH Wednesday, 6th December at 21.30h at the Teatre Comunal, Andorra la Vella. Directed by WILLIAM OLDROYD. Starring: FLORENCE PUGH, COSMO JARVIS, PAUL HILTON. THE STORY: Rural England, 1865. Katherine is stifled by her loveless marriage to a bitter man twice her age, whose family are cold and unforgiving. When she embarks on a passionate affair with a young worker on her husband’s estate, a force is unleashed inside her, so powerful that she will stop at nothing to get what she wants.
