MUSIC
JOSÉ MERCÉ IN CONCERT: Thursday, 4th May at 21.30 at the National Auditorium, Ordino (20€). Seventeen published recordings, and six hundred thousand copies sold since 2002 are proof of the renown of the flamenco singer, JOSÉ MERCÉ. “Flamenco is for everyone!” So says the cantaor from Jerez, bringing the genre to the height of popularity without sacrificing its essence. Now JOSÉ MERCÉ sets out on a new tour of Spain, international festivals and world capitals. Together with a band, he will perform the jewels found in the album, DOY LA CARA, as well as some of his greatest hits. A repertoire that presents the best of pop and flamenco under the command of one of the top exponents of the art.
DON CARLO Friday, 5th May at 20h at the Cinemes Illa Carlemany, Escaldes-Engordany. Verdi’s opera direct from Maggio Musicale Florencia, directed by ZUBIN MEHTA, starring ROBERTO ARONICA, GIANCARLO DEL MONACO and JULIANNA DI GIACOMO. The Story: Elizabeth of Valois is promised in marriage to Don Carlos of Spain as part of a peace treaty between the two kingdoms. They meet and fall in love – but no sooner have they declared their love than news comes that the terms of the treaty have changed: Elizabeth is to marry Carlos’s father Philip instead. Elizabeth, now Carlos’s step-mother, loves him still, but is horrified by his declarations of love. The Grand Inquisitor urges King Philip to have Carlos executed for the sake of the faith and the stability of the kingdom. Carlos decides to flee. He meets Elizabeth one last time to bid farewell – but the Inquisitor’s forces descend upon them.
THE STARS OF MOZART: Saturday, 6th May at 17h in the Teatre Comunal, Andorra la Vella. (Tickets 3€ from onca.ad aimed at children aged 5 – 8). A FAMILY CONCERT by Maquineta Produccions. A musical show on the life and work of Mozart. The Queen of the Night doesn’t remember from which opera she came. Other characters from his operas like Figaro, Don Giovanni, and Papageno and Mozart himself – converted into puppets – help the children to guess.
CINEMA
GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. VOL. 2: Tuesday 2nd and Thursday 4th May at 20.10 and Wednesday 3rd at 19.30 at the Cinemes Illa Carlemany, Escaldes-Engordany. Set to the backdrop of Awesome Mixtape #2, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. VOL. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they unravel the mystery of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Most reviews seem to agree it includes excellent humour. Director: JAMES GUNN, Starring: CHRIS PRATT, ZOE SALDANA, DAVE BAUTISTA.
FESTIVAL
FESTA HOLI ANDORRA: Sunday, 7th May from 11h – 13h in the Prat Gran, Encamp (Free) The 2nd edition of the FESTA HOLI ANDORRA. Filled with colours and music, the celebration is organized by SAMARKANDA. From 11h on, you can enjoy dancing, music, a festive market and lots of colour.
GASTRONOMY
TAST MUSIC: EL SABOR DE LA MÚSICA. Thursday, 4th May at 21.30 at the Restaurant LA BORDA SECRETA, La Massana. (Pre-booking essential at +376 822 240.) The series, TAST MUSIC, is the marriage of gastronomy and music. Themed evenings with the menu inspired by the style of music played by the groups performing during the meal. This Thursday: Menu Cuba with Pali.
