OPERA
THE ABDUCTION FROM THE SERAGLIO by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Tonight, Monday, 19th June at 20h at Cinemes Illa Carlemany, Escaldes-Engordany. (Opera direct from La Scala de Milan). La Scala is staging GORGIO STREHLER’s celebrated ‘silhouettes’ production. The dizzying role of Konstanze will be sung by LENNEKE RUITEN, with the emerging Mozart tenor MAURO PETER in the role of Belmonte.

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF MUSIC: Wednesday, 21st June from 17h – 21h throughout the streets of the Principality. (Free) Open to all amateur and professional musicians, encompassing a wide mix of styles and aimed at popularising the actual playing of music.
PETIT CANTORS DEL PRINCIPAT D’ANDORRA: Wednesday, 21st June at 21h at the Church of Sant Esteve, Andorra La Vella. (Free) Traditional Summer Concert of the Petits Cantors who have sung at the UN in New York and at the Vatican for the Pope.
DAVID SIX – SOLO PIANO: Thursday, 22nd at 21.30 at the National Auditorium, Ordino. (15€ buy online 4tickets.es/AccioCultural/public/janto/) Six is an Austrian pianist, composer and instrumentalist brought to Andorra in collaboration with the Cultural Forum of Austria. The composer has created a piece entitled ‘Andorra’ (op. 72), to be released worldwide on the same day. David Six alternates the genres of contemporary jazz and classical music.
SHUFFLE EXPRESS IN CONCERT: Thursday, 22nd at 22h at the Caldea, Escaldes-Engordany. (Free) A band of four play swing, rock, shuffle, cover versions of songs by classic and contemporary artists such as Eric Clapton and Muddy Waters.
FESTIVALS
ANDOSINOI: 1st FESTIVAL RECREATING ANDORRAN HISTORY. Friday 23rd – Sunday, 25th June at the archaeological site, Jaciment de la Margineda. Immerse yourself in the Middle Ages! Workshops on herbal medicines and minting medieval coins, demonstrations of medieval combat and clothing, it’s all on display as well as guided tours of the actual archaeological site. Open FRIDAY 17h – 21h, SATURDAY 10h – 21h and SUNDAY 10h – 15h.
THE EVE OF SANT JOAN/MIDSUMMER’S EVE: Friday 23rd June. This celebration of fire is one of Andorra’s most popular festivals. (See this week’s blog for more information.) Events throughout the Principality: fire shows, bonfires, parades of burning torches, music, cake and Muscatel and dancing into the small hours will start at the following times: CANILLO: 22h. ENCAMP: 22h. PASS DE LA CASA: 21h. LA MASSANA: 22h. ANDORRA LA VELLA: 19h in front of the Consell General (Parliament) with all the Authorities present followed, at 22.30, by a host of events. SANT JULIÀ DE LÒRIA: 22.30h also lays on major performances of fire dancing and parades with swirling balls of fire.

FRIDAY: 17h – 24h (and Saturday) Celtic Market in the Plaça Sant Miquel. 19h Parade leaving from the Plaça dels Arínsols (PDA). SATURDAY: Junglepark for children at the PDA followed at 12h – 13h Vermouth and traditional games. 17h Children’s spectacular by the TRRR3S and foam party in the PDA. 22.30 Night time dance with the Loca Histèria in the Plaça del Consell. SUNDAY:13h Esbart Sant Romà folkdance group at the PDA followed at 13.30h Omelettes and sausages. 16h Crash Car at Grau Roig. 17h Foam party at the PDA followed at 19h Havaneres (sea shanties) by the Alta Mar. 20.30 Celtic group Irish Corner at the Plaça del Consell. 21h WITCHES MARKET in the Carrer Major. Witches consult their crystal balls, throw the cards and read the hands of all that offer them. Also candles, incense and esoteric decorations on sale.

Xip Xap in the Plaça Guillemó. 22h Musical fireworks show by the Pirotècnica Igual in the (PdP).

The Story: An ancient princess is awakened from her crypt beneath the desert, bringing with her a malevolence grown over millennia, and terrors that defy human comprehension.

SPORT
UCI BTT Masters World Championships 2017: Monday 19th – Saturday, 24th June at Vallnord Bike Park and La Massana. The best mountain bike riders in the world aged 30 and over compete to be cross-country and downhill world champions. Tuesday and Wednesday are for the cross-country races. Saturday at 12h will see the big Downhill Final and prize giving.
