EXHIBITIONS

Until Tuesday, 10th September at the Thyssen Museum, Escaldes-Engordany. (9€) Femina Feminae. The muses and the collector. From Piazzetta to Delaunay” Femina, Feminae travels through nearly three centuries of history via the female figure represented by great masters of painting and sculpture who, with different perspectives, techniques and artistic styles, expressed the attractiveness, simplicity, distinction, nudity and sensuality of women.

The relationship between women and art has always been influential, where the female figure has been a great source of inspiration for many artists. In total, the exhibition will feature 28 works, two of which, for the first time, will be sculptures. This is an exhibition where the visitor will be able to know the different customs and features of the female figure, represented on a canvas that would not exist without these models, as they caused artists the vital desire to represent them.

This is the case of the painter Robert Delaunay and his work La Grande Portuguesa. In this sense, nature is a place
especially appreciated in the representation of the female nude, as we can see in the work Pastora nua ajajuda by Berthe Morisot. However, the city has also allowed artists to capture the feminine essence in its most modern facet.

From works such as La modista en los campos Elisis of Jean Béraud to El Parque. “The Battery” of Reginald Marsh, in all of them the fashion and the woman understood independently amounts to something special. Although the exterior aspect occupies much of the exhibition, the most introspective aspect is not ignored, and is also present thanks to works by pop artists such as Julian Opie or Richard Lindner. But the woman as a motive for representation is not the only protagonist, for the exhibition also aims to highlight the great importance of female collectors, in this case Carmen Thyssen Bornemisza.

Over the years, the renowned collector has been creating a prestigious collection that can be visited in different museums, demonstrating her work as both a diffusor and conserver of art.
