OPERA

Saturday, 11th May at 20.30h and Sunday, 12th May at 18h at the Cultural Centre, Sant Julià de Lòria. (Tickets: 32€. Reduced tickets – carnet jove, targeta magna, children under 18 and friends of the Andorra Lírica Association – 27€ Ticket sales here .) Opera Season: La fille du Régiment. A Comic opera in two acts by G. Donizetti. Donizetti premiered this opera in 1840 at the Teatro Comique in Paris. It was a convulsive period of Napoleonic revolts, the proletariat was very tired of the nobility and the high bourgeoisie. Social differences were increasing. Donizetti used this show to gracefully ridicule and entertain the nobility and wake up heroic but entertaining patriotism.

MUSIC

Wednesday, 8th May at 21.30h at the National Auditorium, Ordino. Quim Salvat at the 2019 Season of the National Auditorium. Quim Salvat – When music can go further. Winner of the 14th Carles Sabater prize, the singer and composer . Quim Salvat, will perform for the first time at the National Auditorium. . Quim Salvat has recorded two video clips this year. Thanks, a song with which he won the Carles Sabater 2016 award and which is part of his first album, Mi granet de arena, which he edited with the help of the Ministry; and 21 Set, a song written and composed for the Andorran Association for Alzheimer’s Disease (AAMA), and which was recorded in the Abbey Road Studios in London. Finalist of the second edition of the LAFI music competition of Andorra, he has also participated in the last two editions of Sona 9. The concert at the Auditorium is part of the 2019 tour ‘When music goes further’, which will take Quim to the best halls in Catalonia. He will offer us a stroll through all his songs with some extra versions. Accompanied on stage by his band, we will live his history in the first person.

Friday, 10th May at 20h in Les Fontetes Theatre, La Massana. (5€) Mans Unides Charity Saxophone Concert with Guillem Tudó on Sax. Meritxell Farrero (well known to many from the Language Suppers) is also President of Mans Unides Andorra. Starting their local fundraising campaign in February, they have already reached an impressive total of over 100,000€.

Friday, 10th May at 21.30h at the Hard Rock Cafe, Andorra la Vella. Hard Rock Cafe Concerts – Ready to Rock. Are you Ready to Rock? Revive great classics of national and international rock with this powerful group of cover versions. From AC / DC, The Police or

Guns’n’Roses to Loquillo, Platero and Tu or Queen, going through a long list of genre legends.

Sunday, 12th May at 12h at the National Auditorium, Ordino. (Tickets: 5€ in advance and 8€ on the day of the concert. www.onca.ad) ONCA Season. Spring concert: The JONCA Andorran Youth Orchestra joins with the Principality’s music schools directed by Albert Gumí. With Oriol Vilella (musical coordinator and electric guitar); Lucas Barreiro (bass) and Dante Falótico (drums). The concert will be divided into two parts, in which the Jonca will start with works by Vivaldi, Smetana, Piazzolla and Murrill and, in the second part, with the incorporation of the Principality’s music schools accompanied for the first time by singers and groups from the country (rock, song, pop, etc.) with the direct participation of Lluís Cartes, Madretomasa, Quim Salvat, Pali and Four Flags, and orchestral arrangements by Albert Gumí. The youth orchestra will be merged with each singer, accompanied by a professional trio of guitar, bass and drums, with the aim of giving prominence to current music in the Principality.

Based on the true story of Joan Stanley, who was exposed as the KGB’s longest-serving British spy. (Do watch the link. What amazing acting! C.A.)

Tuesday, 7th May at 20.15h at the Cinemes Illa Carlemany, Escaldes-Engordany. Edmond (in French) directed by Alexis Michalik. Starring: Thomas Solivérès, Olivier Gourmet, Mathilde Seigner. The Story: December 1897, Paris. Edmond Rostand is not yet thirty but already has two children and a lot of anxieties. He has not written anything for two years. In desperation, he offers the great Constant Coquelin a new play, a heroic comedy, in verse, for the holidays. Only concern: it is not written yet. Ignoring the whims of actresses, the demands of his Corsican producers, the jealousy of his wife, the stories of his best friend’s heart and the lack of enthusiasm of all those around him, Edmond starts writing this piece which nobody believes in. For now, he has only the title: “Cyrano de Bergerac”.

Wednesday, 8th May at 21.30h at La Llacuna Cultural Centre, Andorra la Vella. The Death of Stalin, a black comedy in English with Spanish subtitles. Directed by Armando Lannucci. Starring: Steve Buscemi, Simon Russell Beale, Jeffrey Tambor. The Story: On the night of March 2, 1953 Josef Stalin died, dictator, tyrant, butcher and secretary general of the USSR, and the members of the Council of Ministers scramble for power. A satire of the days when they organized the funerals of the father of the nation, the struggle for absolute power with manipulations, luxuries and betrayals.

Tuesday, 7th May at 18h in the Communal Library of Pas de la Casa, (free. for children over 5) Workshop: We’ll decorate stones from the river. We paint the stones and turn them into symbols of spring: ladybirds, butterflies, flowers … The children will make their creations and will be able to take them home.

Thursday, 9th May at 18h at the Communal Library, Encamp. (Free, For children aged 3 to 6.) Storytelling: La Rateta Presumida (The Presumptuous Little Rat) with Vanessa Silva. Values: humility, love, pride. The story: Once upon time there was a little rat that was very presumptuous. One day she was sweeping the door of her house when she found a gold coin. As soon as she saw it, she began to think about what she would do with it …

Saturday, 11th May at 17h in the Sala de Festa of the Sports Complex, Encamp. (Adults 5€. Children free if booked in advance. Venda d’entrades aquí.) Children’s Musical: Robin Hood performed by the Veus-veus theatre company. A vertiginous and exciting production in which the spectator will enjoy songs, battles, sword duels, juggling and stunts. The action takes place in England, a country dominated by the evil Prince John. The protagonist, Robin Hood, is a hero who robs the rich to give to the poor and, with the help of friends: Little John and Fria Tuck, he organizes a revolt to end the evil deeds of Prince John and save Maid Marian, who was being held in the palace against her will.

Saturday, 11th May at 10.30h at the Escaldes-Engordany Art Centre, Escaldes-Engordany. (3€. Activity for children aged from 6 to 10. Children are recommended to bring a bottle of water, sunglasses and comfortable shoes. The route begins and ends at CAEE.) Water Saturdays A stroll through Engordany to discover this area of the parish, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Escaldes-Engordany (1978-2018).

Friday 10th May to Sunday 12th May in the Sala de la Closeta, La Massana. The Vida Dressing Spring Market is an environmental awareness action that aims to extend the life of clothes and accessories. It is organized twice a year, coinciding with the two periods of the year in which we switch wardrobes. In the market you can find all kinds of clothing, shoes, costume jewellery and other accessories. Opening Hours: Friday 17h – 20h, Saturday 10h – 20h, Sunday 10h – 14h.

STREET MARKETS

Saturday, 11th May from 10h – 14h in the Plaça dels Arínsols, Encamp. Encamp Saturday market. The Encamp Entrepreneurs Association (AEE) recommences their traditional market as a showcase for trade in the parish. This initiative, which was launched in 2014 with the collaboration of the Comú d’Encamp, has had numerous auxiliary activities such as botifarrades (sausage barbeques) children’s face painting, magic, musical performances or batucades (drum bands).
