GASTRONOMY

Starting on Saturday, 19 January, the 11th La Massana Gastronomic Conference: ‘La Massana Fogons’ winter cooking. (For details of each menu go to your local Tourist Office and ask for the pamphlet.) Lo Mandongo lasts from 19th January to 3rd March and the Calçots Menu from 19th January to 22nd April. La Massana opens the gastronomic year in the Principality with the winter cooking initiative Lo Mandongo. This phrase defines the group of pork cuts and the special ingredients with which pork sausages are prepared on the day the winter pig is traditionally slaughtered and which has been for centuries one of the main ingredients of winter meals. The parish’s participating restaurants offer varied menus, which include original dishes with pork as a staple. At Lo Mandongo you will also find menus using other local products cooked in both traditional and more modern and creative ways, with a touch of other cultures. Another product that you can taste during these days of winter cooking are the calçots, a leek-like delicacy, which are also very popular at this time of year.
