MUSIC

Saturday, 24th November at 17h at the Church of Sant Serni, Canillo. (5€ Tickets: Canillo Department of Culture and Sports Tel. 753 624 or Public Library Tel. 753 623.)

Concert by the Trio of Barcelona with Gerard Claret (violin); Lluis Claret (cello); Albert Attenelle (piano). Programme: LV Beethoven, Trio in B-flat Major and F. Mendelssohn, Trio No. 1 in D Minor. This is the 50th year on stage for the Andorran Claret identical twins. Lluís Claret, cellist, has performed with many noted orchestras including the Washington National Symphony, Moscow Philharmonic, National Orchestra of France, English Chamber Orchestra.

He won first prize at a number of prestigious international competitions. Gerard Claret, violinist, won awards in the Tenuto competitions of the Belgian Radiotelevision and Maria Canals of Barcelona. He is a founding member of the Ciutat de Barcelona Quartet and the Numen Quartet. He also teaches at the Music School of Barcelona. He is the Concert Director of the National Classical Orchestra of Andorra (ONCA). Albert Attenelle gave his first concert at the age of six. Later he obtained international awards (Rio de Janeiro, Queen Elisabeth of Belgium, Vianna da Motta of Lisboa, etc…) His career developed as a soloist and interpreter of chamber music in Europe, America and Japan. He is professor at the Liceu Conservatory in Barcelona and Director of L’Escola de Música de Barcelona. In 1981 the three founded the Trio de Barcelona.

Sunday, 25th November at 12h at the National Auditorium, Ordino. Concert of Santa Cecília (Patron Saint of Music – 5€ in advance from www.onca.ad or 8€ on the day.) Directed by Gerard Claret, Albert Gumí and Josep Martínez Reinoso. Performed by the Jonca Youth Orchestra and the Principality’s Music Schools. PROGRAMME: JONCA – Celebration concert with pieces by Sibelius, Vivaldi and also Peter Heidrich’s Variations on Happy Birthday in the styles of Bach, Hayden, Mozart, Beethoven, Wagner, Dvorák and then polka, jazz etc. Then JONCA and the Music Schools: Première dedicated to young Andorran musicians on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the ONCA Foundation. Music: Albert Gumí (1965) Text: Iñaki Rubio (1974) Cantata: From rock to rock through baroque.

DANCING

CINEMA
Monday 19th – Thursday, 22nd at 19h45 at Cinemes Illa Carlemany, Escaldes- Engordany. Bohemian Rhapsody. Directed by Bryan Singer. Starring: Rami Malek, Lucy Boynton, Gwilym Lee. The Story: Bohemian Rhapsody is a foot-stomping celebration of Queen, their music and their extraordinary lead singer Freddie Mercury. Freddie defied stereotypes and shattered convention to become one of the most beloved entertainers on the planet. The film traces the meteoric rise of the band through their iconic songs and revolutionary sound. They reach unparalleled success, but in an unexpected turn Freddie, surrounded by darker influences, shuns Queen in pursuit of his solo career. Having suffered greatly without the collaboration of Queen, Freddie manages to reunite with his bandmates just in time for Live Aid. While bravely facing a recent AIDS diagnosis, Freddie leads the band in one of the greatest performances in the history of rock music. Queen cements a legacy that continues to inspire outsiders, dreamers and music lovers to this day.

Wednesday, 21st November at 21h30 at the Cultural Centre, La Llacuna, Andorra la Vella. Cicle de Cineclub The Florida Project. Directed by Sean Baker. Starring: Brooklynn Prince, Bria Vinaite, Willem Dafoe. The Story: Set over one summer, the film follows precocious six-year-old Moonee as she courts mischief and adventure with her ragtag playmates and bonds with her rebellious but caring mother, all while living in the shadows of Walt Disney World.

Thursday, 22nd November at 20h15 at Cinemes Illa Carlemany, Escaldes-Engordany. Ce qui nous lie (in French) Directed by Cédric Klapisch. Starring: Pio Marmaï, Ana Girardot, François Civil. The Story: After a 10 year absence, Jean returns to his hometown when his father falls ill. Reuniting with his sister Juliette and his brother Jérémie, they have to re-build their relationship and trust as a family again.

Saturday, 24th November at 17h at the Sala de Festes, Pas de la Casa. (Free) Screening the animated film Capità Calçotets directed by actor, screenwriter and director David Soren. The Story: A pair of naughty students hypnotize the director of their school and turn him into Captain Calçotets, a very peculiar superhero, who cannot fly, has no superpowers but has even more peculiar clothing. All three will have a lot of entertaining adventures.

Saturday, 24th November at 11h in the University Public Library, Sant Julià de Lòria. Born to read. Sounds of honey and cotton with Anna Farrès. The story: Sounds of honey and cotton is an activity that starts with music, songs, caressing and singing that are an irreplaceable resource for the development of children because they affect them in a natural way. These caressing, dancing games and lullabies are the first artistic manifestations that mothers and fathers can share with their children and are a starting point in education through which children begin to discover their bodies, oral language, dance, rhythm, listening … Through music we can increase their attention, oncentration (aspects that are unfashionable at present), on music, movement, a text or an instrument. And most importantly, through music we will establish emotional ties through the voice and contact with the body between the parents and children.

Saturday, 24th November at 12h at the Government art gallery ARTALROC, Escaldes-Engordany. (Free. Limited places. Advance registration by: 828 704.) Water beams. Origami for children. A workshop for children from 6 to 12 years, led by Alba Valletbó. The workshop is organized around the exhibition ‘Japan, the footprint of water’.

GASTRONOMY
Saturday, 24th November at 18h in the Sports Complex, Encamp. (4€) 26th edition of the Culinary Festival and Competition. The central theme of this edition will be recipes based on pork as a main ingredient, whether it is smoked, roasted, grilled, fried, cured, stewed or steamed. These dishes will enter into a contest in the adult category (people over 14 years old), where four prizes will be awarded for: the most elaborate dish, the most original, the one with the best combined ingredients and the best presented dish. In the children’s category (aged 5 to 14), there are four prizes for decorated pastries: the best decorated dessert, the best presented, the one that uses the most original ingredients and the one with the best combination of ingredients. The programme: 18h Presentation of the dishes and the deliberation of the jury. 19h A group of accordionists will perform followed by dancing by the Esbart Sant Romà d’Encamp folkdance group. At 20h A tasting of the food will be held and a dinner will be offered by Rebost del Padrí, all accompanied by the music of the accordions. This year, as a novelty, there will be a cheese tasting of Formatgeria Casa Raubert. The evening will end with a night of dancing for all.

OTHER
Wednesday, 21st November at 19h at Prat del Roure, Escaldes-Engordany. An audio-visual presentation to mark the International day for the elimination of violence against women: No t’equivoquis. És violència. (Make no mistake. It’s violence – in Catalan) The presentation will be given by Ms. Mònica Álvarez Isart, expert psychologist in gender violence, and Mr. David Julian Garbayo, expert in cybersecurity at Andorra Telecom.
Every Friday from 20h – 21h at Yogananda, Carrer Pere d’Urg, 10 – 12, 2º 9º, Andorra la Vella – near French post office. Meditation sessions for people who wish to start meditation practice or to deepen it.
