MUSIC

Monday, 19th August at 19.30h at the Plaça Coprínceps, Escaldes-Engordany, Andorra. (Free) World Music: Samba de Festa. They evoke joy, invite you to move, dance and enjoy. Samba is its base, but combined with other styles like the Brazilian reggae or baiao. Cover versions of the greats of Brazilian popular music, like Caetano Veloso or Vinicius de Moraes, with a personal touch, although they also look for spaces for the improvisation of each instrument in a direct vibrant one.

Monday, 19th August at 21.30h at the Church of Sant Esteve, Andorra la Vella. XX Festival d’orgue andorra: Poetiques from the Baroque till Today with Gabriele Pezone and saxophonist Valentin Kovalev. The organist plus the first prize winner of our 2019 SaxFest offer us an evening with the title Poetiques from the Baroque till Today. They will offer us a repertoire in which you can listen to works from Handel to Ennio Morricone, in duet or alone.

Tuesday, 20th Augustat 19.30h at the Plaça Coprínceps, Escaldes-Engordany. (Free) World Music: The Scarlett Brotherhood. This acoustic quintet, just arrived from the most traditional America, calls its show, Driving South Music. They travel from the traditional music of the South of the United States. Guitar, banjo, mandolin, ukulele, violin, harmonic, bass and voice are their means of transport. With them you will discover a piece of Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi and Louisiana.

Tuesday, 20th August at 19.30h in the space of the former Fire Station, Andorra la Vella. Rhythms, Musical Capital: Bohemian Rhapsody. A Tribute to Queen.

Tuesday 20th of August at 20h at the Church of Santa Eulalia, Encamp. Encamp in the key of light with Blue Note. Teresina Serra on piano and Guillem Tudó on the saxophone will play a repertoire that alternates the classics of jazz and blues through versions of songs such as My Way, Wonderful World, La Vie En Rose and others that you can discover. Capturing the audience and helping them remember familiar melodies that have been part of musical culture, past and present, is the aim of the show.

Wednesday, 21st August at 21h in the Plaça Major, Ordino. 23rd Open Nights – Amaru. One of the great challenges of humanity has been, and continues to be, to find inner peace, so that we can find the To Be of life again. Music is one of the most powerful tools on which our humanity has always counted to reach this Unity. The group Amaru, formed by musical therapists, was created with the intention of producing sounds, melodies and frequencies to connect with this depth of being, by combining the sounds of instruments from different cultures: ethnic, Hindu (gong, shruti, tanpura), Tibetan (bowls, bells), Spanish electric guitar, keyboards; along with images and voices.

Wednesday, 21st August at 19.30h at the Plaça Coprínceps, Escaldes-Engordany. World Music: Nino Gallisa A very prestigious Kore songwriter of African music. Creator of innovative compositions that, at the same time, retain the beauty, the magical and exciting sound traditions of the Mandinga people. A thrilling spectacle that combines Kora with percussion, music and dance that is true to African festivals.

Wednesday, 21st August at 21.30h at the Church of Sant Esteve, Andorra la Vella (Free) XX International Festival of Organ &nd: Poètiques. Ludger Lohmann, one of the most prestigious organists and pedagogues of the current organ scene, closes this season of concerts with a program dedicated entirely to the Choral Fantasies, with works by Bach, Buxtehude, Mendelssohn and Franck, four of the great names of the history of music.

Wednesday, 21st August at 21.30h at the Church of Sant Pere del Pas de la Casa. (Free) Encamp in a key of light with Latin Stride & Flamenco at Pas de la Casa. The Latin Stride & Flamenco project arises from the desire to find sounds that are the product of the affinity of different styles, with the thread of the flamenco guitar and Latin stride piano. Jordi Barceló, Manuel Alonso and Pablo Gómez arrive at Pas de la Casa to show their pure and total synergy after having shown the project on scenarios around the world.

Wednesday, 21st August at 22h at the Motorcycle Museum, Canillo. (Free. Places limited, prior booking obligatory to: Motorcycle Museum or Tel .. 853 444) Summer nights at the Museums: The Scarlett Brotherhood. They will be playing traditional music from the South of the USA

Thursday, 22nd August at 19.30h at the Plaça Coprínceps, Escaldes-Engordany. World Music: Virginia & The Woolfs A repertoire based on the black music of the fifties, sixties and seventies of artists such as Etta James, Tina Turner or Aretha Franklin and, at the same time, with evocations of the most modern blues and souls of Amy Winehouse or Duffy. The group gives off an intense energy and charisma on the stage that turns their concerts into an unmissable appointment with the most authentic African American music.

Thursday, 22nd August at 19.30h at the Plaça de la Rotonda, Andorra la Vella. Rhythms, Musical Capital. Latin music with The Gozadera BCN.

Thursday, 22nd August at 20h at the Plaça del Quart de la Massana. Summer Evenings with Vibrand en Clau de Soul. Concert of soul, jazz, funk, pop, bossa nova … of cover versions of songs by artists such as Sting, Etta James, Nina Simone, Adele, Amy Winehouse, Bruno Mars, Tom Jobim, Ray Charles, Joss Stone, James Brown and Michael Jackson. If you want to enjoy a musical, fresh and rhythmical sundown, go to Plaça del Quart and let yourself be carried away by the voice of Virginia and the groove of Marc and Dante.

Thursday, 22nd August at 22h at the Plaça Sant Miquel, Encamp. Encamp in the key of light with Aliena. A group made up of five young musicians (Marc, Dani, Linx, Martí and Avyrton) who manage the tempos of rock, metal, grunge and punk-pop with the boldness of their age. Their songs, behind the guitar and hard base, speak of love, the family, the pursuit of happiness and the feeling of dissatisfaction that affects a whole generation.

Friday, 23rd August at 21h at El Cabin, La Massana. (Free) Shuffle Express in concert. The weekends begin at The Cabin with live music! Come and enjoy the best atmosphere of Arinsal on a special night of pure blues in different styles (swing, rock, shuffle …), cover versions of classic and contemporary artists such as BB King, Eric Clapton, Muddy Waters, Junior Wells, Joe Bonamassa, Jr.Watson and Little Walter, among many others, as well as the band’s own compositions. Saturday, 24th August at 21.30h at Anyós Park, La Massana. Vibrand in Clau de Soul in concert. Live music and the best atmosphere at the Aqualounge’s Chill Out! You can have a cocktail while enjoying the best hits of the past by artists such as Amy Winehouse, Adele, Jamiroquai, Sting, Bruno Mars, Nina Simone, Beatles, Joss Stone, James Brown, Ray Charles and Tom Jobim, amongst many others. Saturday, 24th August at 22.30h at the cafè teatre La Fada Ignorant, Andorra la Vella. (reverse box office) Concerts at La Fada: Bru Ferri & Kic Baroque. Bru Ferri of Barcelona and Enric Bartumeu of Andorra will meet at La Fada Ignorant to review their favourite songs: boleros, classics of pop, jazz and a bit of free improvisation on piano and in an intimate concert following La Fada philosophy.

CINEMA

Monday 19th – Thursday, 22nd August at 20.15h at the Cinemes Illa Carlemany, Escaldes-Engordany. Once upon a time in Hollywood. Directed by Quentin Tarantino. Starring: Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie. The story: A faded television actor and his stunt double strive to achieve fame and success in the film industry during the final years of Hollywood’s Golden Age in 1969 Los Angeles.

We will fight the heat in the most original way: with a show that unites live musical entertainment with a series of water resources designed so that each drop of water will distribute a sea of happiness!

Tuesday, 20th August at 20h at the Prat Gran, Encamp. Summer Evening in Encamp with the Xaxipiruli Festival.

Wednesday, 21st August at 18h at the Prat Gran, La Massana. Little Summer Afternoons. Teatre Arrossagat is a company that moves its stage around the world, to represent places and streets with the best known and beloved stories in the universal repertoire. The Teatre Arrossagat unfolds before the eyes of the public to offer a popular theatre, which is inspired by art and street comics. A performance full of fun, popularity and complicity with the public.

Thursday, 22nd August at 17h at the Prat Gran, Encamp. Summer afternoon in Encamp with Xarop de Canya. Young and old … prepare your noses! The Man of the Noses has prepared a fast-paced show full of music, dance, games and songs.

Saturday, 21st August at 17h at the CAEE, Escaldes-Engordany Art Centre. (Free but Pre-booking essential at Tel 802 255 or [email protected]) Magic Heads. In the streets of the parish there are multiple sculptures by the Catalan artist Samuel Salcedo, human faces with various expressions created out of aluminium and bronze. Concerning these sculptures, CAEE has prepared activities for children and adults. A Workshop for children at the entrance of the CAEE.

Saturday, 24th August from 10h – 13h along the Iron Route – Llorts, Ordino. (Price:10€ per child – includes backpack with all the materials needed – Maximum of 15 children per outing and a minimum of 7, accompanied by an adult. Paint, cut out, draw, look through a magnifying glass and learn about our ironwork past following the Iron Route with the backpack on Saturdays. A pedagogical and discovery activity for families with children between 5 and 12 years old. Sign up and have a good time with the little ones in the household.

EXHIBITIONS

Thursday, 22nd August at the Thyssen Museum, Escaldes-Engordany.  The amount collected in the sale of tickets will be used entirely by UNICEF Andorra for their project in Bhutan that aims to improve access to inclusive education for children with disabilities. From adapting the schools with ramps to facilitate access, to training teachers in the language of Signing so that they can communicate with deaf children and to fight against the stigmas that these children suffer from for cultural reasons. The minimum donation for the ticket is 9€.

Until 15th September, Exposició Animals at the government exhibition hall ARTALROC, Escaldes-Engordany. (More information and reservations at tel .: 802 255 or [email protected]) There will be a series of sculptures by the Catalan artist Samuel Salcedo in the ARTALROC and in the streets of the upper part of Escaldes-Engordany. In total, fifty sculptures in the formats and techniques used by the artist, will be on display so visitors can know the full range of his production. It is an ambitious sample that presents two concepts already insinuated by the title of the exhibition: the animal and the mirror. We will see the animality of man as we have never faced it before, with all its fragility, vulgarity and ridicule. And we will also see ourselves in the sculpture of Salcedo, as if we are reflected in a mirror. The following complementary activities have been organized around the exhibition: ANIMALS IN THE STREET: A Route to discover sculptures by Samuel Salcedo. On Wednesday, 21st August at 18.30h and Friday, 30th August, at 11h at the CAEE.
