Rufus Wainwright Friday, 12th May at 20h at the Centre de Congressos, Andorra la Vella. (30€ and 40€ ). In the 23rd Morabanc Season of Music and Dance. Rufus Wainwright: “Poetry and the Singer-songwriter” Praised by the New York Times for his “genuine originality,” Rufus Wainwright has established himself as one of the great male vocalists and songwriters of his generation writing both alternative pop and opera. Aged 14, he was nominated best young musician of Canada. He has gone on to win many other awards. His much acclaimed first opera, Prima Donna, premiered at the Manchester International Festival and was then performed in London at Sadler’s Wells. In 2010 the San Francisco Symphony commissioned him to compose and interpret ‘Five Sonnets of Shakespeare’ which has since been performed by orchestras around the world. Musically Rufus has collaborated with artists including Elton John, David Byrne, Boy George, Joni Mitchell, the Pet Shop Boys and, most recently, on the title track of Swings Both Ways with the singer Robbie Williams.

The Circle. Monday 8th – Thursday, 11th May at 18h at the Cinemes Illa Carlemany, Escaldes-Engordany. Directed by James Ponsoldt, starring Emma Watson,  Tom Hanks,  John Boyega. The Story: Mae Holland (Emma Watson) is an ordinary and unaccomplished young woman with an ill father who seizes the opportunity of a lifetime when she lands a job with the world’s most powerful technology and social media company, The Circle. Encouraged by the company’s founder (Tom Hanks), Mae joins a ground-breaking experiment that pushes the boundaries of privacy, ethics and personal freedom. Her participation in the experiment, and every decision she makes soon starts to affect the lives and futures of her friends, family and that of humanity.

SLEEPLESS Monday 8th – Thursday, 11th May at 20.30 at the Cinemes Illa Carlemany, Escaldes-Engordany. Directed by Baran bo Odar, starring  Jamie Foxx,  Michelle Monaghan,  Dermot Mulroney. The Story:  A cop with a connection to the criminal underworld scours a nightclub in search of his kidnapped son.

PICK OF CREATIVITY WEEK AT LA LLACUNA, Andorra la Vella.

MAKE JEWELERY. Tuesday, 19h – 20.30 (for over 15s) in the Taller de Gravat i Joieria (1st floor). Bejewel yourself with leaves! Using different types of leaves, we’ll saw them out in metal to make earrings or pendants.

The Plaça’s got a Grand Piano! Wednesday from 13h – 19h in the Plaça Guillemó, the Institut de Música d’Andorra la Vella will be putting a grand piano in the square for anyone who would like to play it! 18.30 in the Popular Culture Space (3rd floor) of La Llacuna, there’s Fallaires d’Andorra la Vella. An open door rehearsal of ‘Folk de l’Escola’. Come and get to know the traditional instruments that are played by the Escola Folk del Principat. At 19h – 19.30 a musical street parade from the Cap del Carrer, through the Plaça Guillemó, Plaça Príncep Benlloc ending in the Centre de Congressos Hall. An Improvised Director. A performance by the Orchestra of l’Institut de Música with the public’s participation.

CHILDREN

PROPERS. Saturday, 13th May at 18h in the Auditorium of the Palau de Gel ice rink, Canillo (5€ from the reception but free for under threes.) Propers is a comedy without words. They’ve arrived! They’re here to clean everything. This very polite pair have a mission to clean, but this time there’s some graffiti that defies them. An amusing example of how a very simple task can become a comic, absurd and participating comedy for all. Humour and theatrical gestures – but without words, so nolaguage problem!
