MUSIC
The Virtuosos of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra: Leonard Bernstein Centenary Sunday, 4th March at 20h at the Centre de Congressos, Andorra la Vella. (Tickets: 25€, 30€ & 35€ from the Andorra la Vella Tourist Office or at the door one hour before the concert). Part of the annual Music and Dance Season, The Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra is one of the world’s most important symphonic orchestras and The Virtuosos is one of their groups of top chamber musicians. The first half will be dedicated to the American composer, Leonard Bernstein and the second half to Tchaikovsky in the 125th anniversary of his death.

The Winter’s Tale Wednesday, 28th February at 20.15h at the Cinemes Illa Carlemany, Escaldes-Engordany. Direct from the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. The Winter’s Tale. Shakespeare’s tale of love and loss, with music by Joby Talbot, has become a compelling dance drama at the hands of the inspired British choreographer, ChristopHer Wheeldon, creator of the brilliant Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Conducted by Tom Seligman. Starring Lauren Cuthbertson as Hermione, Ryoichi Hirano as Leontes, Sarah Lamb as Perdita, and Vadim Muntagirov as Florizel. The Story: King Leontes, possessed by a mad jealousy, believes his pregnant wife Hermione to be having an affair with his childhood friend King Polixenes. His actions tear their families apart. Hermione’s baby daughter is abandoned and Hermione and their son die of distress. The baby, Perdita, rescued by a shepherd, grows up to fall in love with Florizel, son of Polixenes. The young couple is reunited with the remorseful Leontes and Hermione returns from the dead. Christopher Wheeldon, Artistic Associate of The Royal Ballet, created his adaptation of Shakespeare’s last great romance The Winter’s Tale for The Royal Ballet in 2014. Building on the success of Wheeldon’s Alice, The Winter’s Tale received ecstatic praise at its premiere, acclaimed by critics and audiences alike for its intelligent, distinctive and emotionally powerful story, told through exquisite dance. It is now widely judged to be a modern ballet classic.
CINEMA
All the Money in the World Monday 26th February to Thursday, 1st March at 19.45h at the Cinemes Illa Carlemany, Escaldes-Engordany.. Directed by Ridley Scott. Starring: Michelle Williams, Christopher Plummer, Mark Wahlberg. The Story: The kidnapping of 16-year-old John Paul Getty III and the desperate attempt by his devoted mother to convince his billionaire grandfather, JEAN PAUL GETTY, to pay the ransom. This is the film where 88-year-old Canadian actor, Christopher Plummer, was asked to take over from disgraced Kevin Spacey, and re shoot the whole Jean Paul Getty part in nine days! He has now been nominated for the Academy Best Supporting Actor Award for his performance.
SPORT
Freeride World Tour Thursday 1st – Wednesday, 7th March at Vallnord Ordino-Arcalis ski station. Once again, the Vallnord Ordino-Arcalís station is the setting for the Freeride World Tour, one of the most spectacular events in the international winter calendar. This year we’ll be the third event of the circuit, in which the best 45 Riders of the international scene will participate in four categories: male skiing, women’s skiing, male snowboarding and snowboarding. The 2018 calendar has a total of five trials, on three continents. The first two locations are new: Hakuba (Japan) and Kicking Horse (Canada). After Ordino-Arcalís, there are the classics of Fieberbrunn (Austria) and Verbier (Switzerland), where the season will close. Vallnord Arcalís first welcomed the Freeride World Tour in 2015.
