Old forest reservoir “Plotina” in Ramenskoye

Old forest reservoir “Plotina”, Moscow region, Russia. Reservoir Plotina (Dergaev reservoir) and locks.

Created at the end of the 19th century by the manufacturers Malyutins in order to preserve and replenish Lake Borisoglebskoye, in the city of Ramenskoye.

The Dergaevsky Canal, as well as a system of locks and smaller canals, feeds Borisoglebskoye Lake. Created at the end of the 19th century and probably updated around the 50s of the 20th century. The canal connected the Dergaevskoye reservoir (Lake Plotina) with the Borisoglebskoye lake and made it possible to maintain the water level in the latter at a sufficient level. The draining and drying up of the swamps that feed the Dergaevka River, as well as the destruction of the system of canals and locks, have contributed a lot to the current sad picture. Borisoglebskoye Lake has become very shallow.

In ancient times, the walls of the canal were dressed in concrete.

Now the channel is very swampy, in some places a completely dried-up canal remains.

The length of the canal is 4.7 km. Along the canal on the left bank there is a path along which you can drive up to the reservoir.
