Moscow Planetarium and its museum

The Moscow Planetarium is one of the largest in the world and the oldest planetarium in Russia. Located in Moscow near the new territory of the Moscow Zoo, on the Garden Ring. It was built in 1927-1929 according to the project of architects M. O. Barshch, M. I. Sinyavsky and engineer G. A. Zunblat.

At the time of its opening, the Moscow Planetarium was the only one in the country, the thirteenth in the world and Europe.

The main activity of the Moscow Planetarium is the popularization of natural science knowledge.

The Moscow Planetarium has an observatory from which you can observe various space objects.

The planetarium building includes several levels. At the lowest, underground level, there is a small star hall (designed to show children the starry sky in miniature), 4D cinema, an interactive museum “Lunarium” (expositions on astronomy and physics). Above, on the first level, there is also an exposition of the Lunarium Museum (a hall dedicated to the history of comprehension of space), as well as the halls of the Urania Museum, where visitors can get acquainted with the history of the Moscow planetarium.

On the second level there is a large (with the largest telescope in Moscow, accessible to the general public, with a diameter of 300 mm) and a small (telescope diameter of 400 mm) observatories, the Sky Park astronomical site with a collection of open-air workers astronomical instruments, the hall of the Urania Museum with a collection of meteorites and historical Zeiss equipment of the planetarium.

On the last, third level, directly under the dome, there is the Great Hall of Stars, the projector of which allows you to see over 9 thousand celestial bodies and their movements across the sky over time.

Currently, the planetarium is open to visitors every day except Tuesday, from 10 am to 9 pm.
