The Monastery of Santa María la Real – an old abbey of the Premonstratensian order

The monastery of Santa María la Real (Monasterio de Santa María la Real) is an old abbey of the Premonstratensian order located in the town of Aguilar de Campoo, province of Palencia, autonomous community of Castile and León, Spain.

The monument was built between the 12th and 13th centuries in a transitional style from Romanesque to Gothic with elements of Cistercian art.

It currently houses a Secondary Education Institute, the Language School, the UNED, as well as the headquarters of the Fundación Santa María la Real-Romanesque Studies Center and the ROM Museum.

It is a Site of Cultural Interest (BIC) with the category of National Historic-Artistic Monument.
