The Monastery of San Lourenzo de Carboeiro was founded in the 10th century

The Monastery of San Lourenzo de Carboeiro (Gal: Mosteiro de San Lourenzo de Carboeiro) is one of the most outstanding architectural works of the late Romanesque, the transition to the Gothic, in Pontevedra province, Galicia, Spain.

It is a Benedictine monastery founded in the 10th century. Its moments of greatest splendor were between 11th and 13th centuries. The church and some other buildings are still in good condition, after the works of restoration and recovery made during the second half of the twentieth century.

After the confiscation of Mendizábal, the monastery became private property, at which time the roof was lost and suffered various plundering, which led to its ruinous state in the 20th century.

Since 1974, various restoration works have been carried out, which have allowed it to be visited since 2006 and various educational workshops to be held.
