On January 17, La Seu D’Urgell, Catalonia (Spain) celebrates Saint Anthony’s day with the preparation of more than 3,000 portions of escudella, the traditional winter dish of Catalonia, as well as neighboring Andorra (Pyrenees). To prepare the escudella the city needs about 800 kg of vegetables, legumes, beef, pork and veal. The holiday starts at 12.00 with a solemn mass in the cathedral of Santa Maria d’Urgell.
The Feast of St. Anthony is one of the most revered winter holidays of the inhabitants of Catalonia. This is a kind of tribute to farmers who grow livestock, as well as butchers and cooks.
One can try the escudella for free.
The venue for the event is Passeig Joan Brudieu.
