The Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes is one of the most important roads in the city of Barcelona (Catalonia, Spain), which crosses it from one side to the other, with a route of more than nine kilometers (13 counting the extensions to l’Hospitalet and Sant Adrià), making it the longest street in Spain.
The numbering of the estates reaches up to 1198.
Popularly called Gran Via, it starts at the border with the municipality of l’Hospitalet de Llobregat, near Plaça d’Ildefons Cerdà, and ends at the other end of Barcelona, at the border with Sant Adrià de Besòs.
On its route it crosses the squares of Spain, the University, Tetuan and the Catalan Glòries.
The Glòries-Besòs section coincides with the first section of the Maresme motorway which is currently semi-covered along with a Trambesòs road.
Line 1 of the Barcelona metro runs through its underground between Plaça d’Espanya and Plaça de la Universitat; and line 2 between Plaça de la Universitat and the junction with Carrer Marina.
In the section that goes between Carrer de Balmes and Rambla de Catalunya, several bombs dropped by the Italian air force in 1938 during the Civil War.
In 2001, a commemorative monument was erected there that can be seen right in front of the Coliseum cinema.
