The Head of FIDE and IMSA Kirsan Ilyumzhinov visited Andorra

On May 21, 2014 the Head of FIDE and IMSA Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, arrived on a working visit to the Principality. The Head of the International Chess Federation Kirsan Ilyumzhinov spent the day in negotiations with the Prime Minister of Andorra Antoni Marti, the President of  Andorran National Olympic Committee Jaume Mandico, State Secretary of Andorra for Sports Jordi Sierra, and also with Russia’s Honorary Consul in Andorra Pere Joan Tomas Sogero.

Ilyumzhinov visited Andorra a local chess club and talked to journalists during press-conference. A separate meeting with the administration of Chess Federation of Andorra took place.

Chess Federation of Andorra was represented by the President Francesco Rechi, the Delegate Joan Obregon, Secretary Josep Rivero and Technical Director Oscar de la Riva Aguado.

The major result of Mr. Ilyumzhinov’s visit to Andorra are the agreements  to put into effect the «Chess in Schools» educational program and the commitment to support the efforts of FIDE in the direction of including chess in the Olympic Program.

Georgian Deputy Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Zurab Azmaiparashvili accompanied the Head of FIDE at all meetings.
