Cotignac is a commune in the Var department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region in southeastern France at the gates of the Verdon regional natural park. The number of its inhabitants has increased significantly since 1968.

It has a very active craft industry.

It is a place of Catholic pilgrimage for fathers and mothers expecting children. The commune includes two religious sanctuaries.

The village is a member of the association, The Most Beautiful Villages of France.

Tourism and main attractions

The old village has several monuments listed on the supplementary inventory of historical monuments.

  • Oppidum, Le Castellas site.
  • Church of Our Lady of the Annunciation, its bell of 1524, its organ Daublaine Callinet.

  • Notre-Dame de Graces Church. At Mont Verdaille in the southwest, dominating the right bank of the torrent, is the Notre-Dame de Grâces church, founded in 1519, and the goal of a pilgrimage whose fame has become essentially regional, against the sterility of women.

  • Chapel of Saint-Joseph and Monastery of Saint-Joseph du Bessillon, on the eastern slope of Bessillon, built in 1660, after the appearance of Saint-Joseph to a shepherd. The chapel of Saint-Joseph du Bessillon is visited by a large number of pilgrims.
  • Saint Martin Chapel.

  • Numerous dwellings on the cliffside.
  • Clock Tower, its sundial and its bell of 1496.
  • Fontaines des Quatre-Saisons and the wash house on the Cours Gambetta, listed on the supplementary inventory of historic monuments.
