Church of Simeon Stolpnik on Povarskaya

The Church of Simeon Stolpnik on Povarskaya (Prepodobnogo Simeona Stolpnika Na Povarskoy) is an Orthodox church in the Arbat district of Moscow, built in 1676-1679 by decree of Tsar Fyodor Alekseevich in the style of Russian ornamentation. It belongs to the Central Deanery of the Moscow Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church.

The main altar was consecrated in honor of the Entry into the Church of the Most Holy Theotokos, the aisles – in the name of Simeon the Stylite and in the name of St. Demetrius of Rostov.

A wooden church stood on this site already in 1625. According to one version, it was consecrated on the day of coronation of Boris Godunov, since this day fell on the feast of Simeon the Stylite.

White-stone tombstones of the 17th-18th centuries have been preserved in the walls of the building.

On the church plot there was a wooden house, in which in 1819 – the middle of the 1820s the actor P. S. Mochalov lived.
