Central Armed Forces Museum and its exhibitions

The Central Armed Forces Museum (рус. Центральный Музей Вооруженных сил) also known as the Museum of the Soviet Army, is located in northern Moscow, Russia, near the Red Army Theater and Ekaterininsky Park.

The first exposition which showed the military condition of the Soviet Republic and the Red Army was organised in Moscow in the building of today’s State Universal Store, and was opened by Vladimir Lenin on the 25th May 1919, following a parade in Red Square.

On 23d December 1919 an order was issued on the formation of a museum-exposition “Life of the Red Army and Fleet” in the same location, whose purpose was to inform the public about the achievements by post-October Revolution of Soviet Russia in military education, culture and political discipline in the Red Army and Navy.

The exposition of the museum is aimed at visitors of different age categories. Excursions, interactive classes, quest – games are carried out taking into account the age of the tourists: for students, junior, senior classes, and an adult audience.

“Weapon of Victory”.

At the interactive lesson “Weapon of Victory” you will get acquainted with the history of the creation and combat use of small arms during the Great Patriotic War, as well as the opportunity to hold in your hands the famous revolver of the Nagant system, the Mosin three-line rifle and a number of other models that have become legend.

All exhibits can be taken in hand, photographed and sent to friends.

“Homeland rewards the brave.”

At the interactive lesson “Homeland rewards the brave”, you will be introduced to the main milestones in the development of the Soviet award system, the main military orders will be presented, the history of their creation and interesting cases of awarding will be told. In addition, you will see rare photographs from the archives of the Central Museum of the Armed Forces.
