Catalonia launched a project to eliminate plastic bags in stores

The Catalan city of La Seu d’Urgell has begun a project to eliminate plastic bags in the city’s shops and supermarkets. Plastic bags will be replaced with disposable paper bags. This project is part of the European CERES project to promote environmental materials for public use, promoted by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation (La Fundació Ellen MacArthur) with the support of the Catalonia Waste Control Agency.

The project’s goal – reduce the annual use of packaging by 2 million units and to completely eliminate the use of plastic bags from January 1, 2021.
