Borovitskaya Square

Borovitskaya Square (until 1956 – Borovitsky Gate Square) is one of the central squares of Moscow opposite the Borovitsky Gates of the Kremlin between the Bolshoy Kamenny Bridge, Manezhnaya Street, Volkhonka, Mokhovaya and Znamenka. It is located in the Tverskoy district and the Khamovniki district.

At the beginning of the 18th century, the courtyards of Nikita Zotov and Athanasius Vyazemsky stood on the site of the modern square. By the end of the 18th century, there were several trading shops and courtyards of the clergy of the Kremlin churches. The square as a free space was formed in the late 1930s after the demolition of houses at the beginning of Znamenka.

Nearest metro: Alexander Garden, Borovitskaya, Lenin Library, Arbatskaya.
