The Grad-1 (9К 55) multiple launch rocket system is a variant of the BM-21 Grad. Developed in the early 1970s for the front-line artillery units and entered service with the Soviet Army in 1976. It is designed to defeat the open and sheltered enemy manpower on the front line and in the nearest tactical depth. The main designer is A. Yaskin. Can be transported, including by air, by military transport aircraft and by water on landing ships. The maximum firing range with a high-explosive fragmentation projectile is 15 km. Full combat readiness of the system requires no more than three minutes.
