Artiés is a population entity in the municipality of Alto Arán, in the third of Artiés and Garós, in the Valle de Arán region (CataloniaSpain, province of Lleida), Pyrenees. It is located at the confluence between the Garonne River and its Valarties tributary, at an altitude of 1,144 metres.

The name of Artiés is of Basque origin and means “plain between two waters”. The town has a public library, school, hotels, shops, and a wide range of restaurants and bars, as well as an outdoor sports area and SPA center. It’s a popular place to stay for skiers from Baqueira Beret.

Since 2023 Artiés is included in the The most beautiful villages of Spain list.

Main attractions

Romanesque church of Santa María de Artiés, historical-artistic monument from the 11th and 13th centuries, in the old center of the town.

Church of San Juan, Gothic style, from the beginning of the 14th century, with an octagonal bell tower. Currently it hosts temporary exhibitions.

In front of the church are the remains of the castle of Artiés or Entrasaigües.

Tower and chapel of the Casa de los Portolà, from the 16th century, which houses the Gaspar de Portolá Parador de Turismo.

Baths of Artiés, currently abandoned, with two sources of sulphurous waters.

Thermal pools. The two pools, one 5 x 6 meters and the other 2 x 8 meters, are located next to the Baños de Artiés, an old complex with three sources of sulfur-sodium hot springs that have been unused since the 1980s. In the new facility, regardless of the previous one, bathers enjoy natural thermal water at a temperature of 39ºC.
