The adoption of the law “On granting the right for temporary residence and humanitarian assistance to victims affected by the conflict in Syria” and the signing of a protocol of mutual understanding with the Christian community of Sant Egidio will allow Andorra (Pyrenees) to accommodate refugees from Syria in 2018. Such a joint statement has been made today by Andorran Foreign Minister Maria Ubach and Minister of Justice, Social and Interior Affairs of Andorra Xavier Espot Zamora.

Refugees will get the rights to work, study, use social and health services. The draft law also provides conditions for the return of refugees to the country of origin, if they wish.

The quota of the government will be approved annually.

The joint work of the two ministries on the preparation of the lawes has been carried out jointly with the United Nations since 2016.

A protocol on mutual understanding will help the integration of refugees. The document can be signed before the end of this year.
