The Andorran government will carry out an inspection on some government offices to investigate their structural safety

asbestosThe Government of Andorra will carry out an inspection on some government offices to investigate their structural safety.

Focusing on the impact on human health, they will look at the problems of the use of asbestos. In Andorra (Pyrenees) the use of this toxic material in the construction has been prohibited for the last 20 years.

However, some buildings constructed before this date could contain asbestos – a fibrous mineral of silicates class, which were used for insulating walls and pipes.

The process of asbestos identification is not dangerous, as a special apparatus spectrograph can be used which detects the presence of this material without any direct contact.

The government is ready to start the corresponding process at the beginning of 2017.
